Buccino

Buccino
Thanks to its dominant and well-protected geographic position, the locality has been frequented since the earliest times. The oldest materials date back to the early Neolithic period, particularly in the localities of San Mauro and Piani di Buccino. In the locality of Sant'Antonio, on the other hand, several Chalcolithic testimonies have emerged, thus dating back to the second half of the 3rd millennium B.C., more precisely, some tombs belonging to the nearby Gaudo civilisation, now traceable to the first inhabitants of Paestum

Pertosa Caves

Pertosa Caves
The Pertosa-Auletta Caves are a complex of karstic cavities of tourist importance, located in the municipality of Pertosa (SA). The karstic complex, whose entrance is located in the municipality of Pertosa, spreads underground in the neighbouring municipalities of Auletta and Polla, at 263 m above sea level, along the left bank of the Tanagro river.

San Gregorio Magno

San Gregorio Magno
The settlement of San Gregorio Magno lay, until recently, on the shores of a Pleistocene lake that had completely dried up by the turn of the 19th century. Already a flourishing pagus in Roman times, after depopulation due to the barbarian invasions, it was a Benedictine grange, around whose church, dedicated to the saint of the same name, a hamlet was formed, which became autonomous during the 14th century, when it was enfeoffed to the Lagni family. It subsequently passed to the Caracciolos, and finally to the Fallettis.

Palomonte

Palomonte
The very ancient origin of settlements in the Palomonte area makes this municipality a reservoir of important cultural elements. The prehistoric period saw the existence of a human settlement in the locality of Sperlonga, whose religious cults are discernible in the graffiti and basins left in the inhabited caves. The same area, in the following millennia, saw the influence of Byzantine culture, with the Basilian monks who founded the sanctuary dedicated to the Assumption there.
